The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) plays a central role in safeguarding the integrity, independence, and credibility of South Africa’s judiciary. Recent developments and public debates concerning judicial accountability have raised important questions about whether the current judicial selection process is sufficiently rigorous and balanced.
This public discussion will examine the role and functioning of the JSC, including the adequacy of vetting and background checks, the assessment of candidates’ legal and ethical standards, and the influence of political considerations in judicial appointments.
