Meeting of NGO representatives in Johannesburg
Civic Education Focus

It was great to join a Johannesburg meeting of representatives from diverse NGOs and other institutions to share experience, insights and ideas on Civic Education work in South Africa.

The productive workshop on Civic Education and Elections was hosted by Activate Change Drivers in Johannesburg. The half-day gathering was looking back at activities ahead of the Parliamentary and Provincial Elections in May 2024, and ahead to the Local Government Elections in 2026.

It was great to hear enlightening inputs from NGO representatives, the Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa and the South African Local Government Association about important work they do, and to discuss collaborating.

In our presentation and during the lively discussion, we shared information about our Civics Academy and its project activities.

The institutions represented also included the Moral Regeneration Movement, the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation, Church representatives and other organisations working in schools and communities.

Participants valued the opportunity to learn from each other and expressed that they are looking forward to next steps in communicating and exploring potential collaborations.
