That was the theme of the hybrid Annual Evidence-Based Policing Conference South Africa, which just took place in Cape Town with high-level decision-makers, experts, and diverse stakeholder representatives among the speakers and participants.

“We need to take bold decisions. The moment to reset policing has arrived.”

This was one of the assertions by Police Minister Prof Firoz Cachalia in his wide-ranging remarks at the Conference. In his speech, the Minister emphasized the urgent need for reforms and cooperation of the institutions in the criminal justice system. 

Minister Prof. Cachalia also expressed his appreciation for the work of the Justice and Violence Prevention Program in the Institute for Security Studies regarding Evidence-Based Policing and recommendations for police reform.
