At a joint event co-hosted by the Cape Town Press Club, the Catholic Parliamentary Liaison Office, and the Hanns Seidel Foundation, Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa, Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, gave the keynote address.

In his address during the event at the Cape Town Press Club, Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa presented the new Local Government White Paper and outlined proposed legislative reforms. 

He also discussed the Municipal Structures Amendment Bill, which aims to strengthen the stability and effectiveness of coalition governance, and reflected on the impact of coalition governments on politics and development in South Africa.

During an open and candid Q&A with journalists and participants, the Minister emphasised the importance of professionalising governance and administration to improve service delivery at the municipal level.
