“Social Bonding and Decolonisation in the Context of the Climate Crisis: Perspectives from the Global South” - This is the theme of the 20th Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture, to be held by the Prime Minister of Barbados, Her Excellency Mia Amor Mottley, on the 12th of November at the Durban ICC. As the Hanns Seidel Foundation, we are honoured to support this important event again this year.
The historic 20th Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture will be held in the City of eThekwini, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), as a demonstration of solidarity with the communities most affected by the catastrophic floods on South Africa’s eastern seaboard in April 2022.
The Honourable Mia Amor Mottley is ideally placed to address the important topic of this year’s lecture. She was crowned a Champion of the Earth by the United Nations Environmental Programme in December 2021. This is the UN’s highest environmental honour, awarded to her for policy leadership and advocacy concerning the countries most vulnerable to the climate crisis. The Speaker has also just received the prestigious 2022 Champion for Global Change Award from the United Nations.
Join us in Durban for this special, first in-person Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture since 2019, on a topic which is crucial for our global future, and book your free ticket online now.
Should you not be able to attend the physical event, you can follow the lecture on the 12th of November from 3 pm SAST on YouTube, Facebook, or the interactive online platform of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
