These were the very engaging speakers:
*Tatjana von Bormann, Acting Head, Policy and Futures Unit, World Wildlife Fund and Chair, South African Food Lab
*Suveer Ramdhani, Gauteng Food Security Committee
*Nonhlanhla Joye, CEO, Ugibe Farming Organics
*Henriette Abrahams, Bonteheuwel Development Forum
They speakers shared very practical experience from their organisations doing amazing work to help those most in need - in very different projects that often succeed against all odds through the commitment and ingenuity of those involved.
In many cases, innovative collaborations have also proven crucial to achieve what would not be possible without them.
The event was chaired jointly and very skilfully by Chandre Gould, Senior Research Fellow, Justice and Violence Prevention, ISS, and Rebecca Freeth, Senior Associate, Reos Partners.
Dr Chandre Gould, for a number of years, has been a leading member of a multi-stakeholder violence prevention group in South Africa, as well as a pilot project on postitive parenting in the Western Cape. With her team, she has recently been involved in food support initiatives as well.
To find out about truly encouraging initiatives and learn about current edge debates on how to make the food system in South Africa more sustainable and helpful for so many that are not able to feed themselves and their children well enough, you can watch a recording here:
