The excellent launch panel with Morne Mostert, Director, Institute for Futures Research, and Trudi Hartzenberg from Trade Law Centre was facilitated by the incisive Ottilia Maunganize, Head of Special Projects at the Institute for Security Studies. Jakkie Cillier emphasized that the African continent is moving forward, but at a pace that is too slow and thus widening the gap to faster growing regions of the world. "Leapfrogging is a huge opportunity for African growth. Only partnership between government and business can unlock growth" he emphasized.
Panelists agreed that we need to expand productive capacity to trade. The African Continental Free Trade Area could contribute extensively to growth & investment. There was consensus that nothing is more important than growing the economy. Policy predictability, stability and good governance is the foundation.
The book is based on recent research at the African Futures and Innvoation Program in the Institute for Security Studies. Using the International Futures software developed at the Pardee Center at the University of Denver and diverse other research methods, long term forcasts are made for different areas of developement, considering potential interventions and different scenarios. Practical recommendations for decision makers offer well-founded advice. A short video provides a concise introduction to the book:
