African European Partnership

A delegation visit in Brussels with our partner experts Dr. Jakkie Cilliers, Chair, and Ottilia Maunganidze, Head of Special Projects, ISS Pretoria, and Julia Stanyard, Senior Analyst, GI-TOC, facilitated insightful exchanges with HSF Chairperson Markus Ferber, MEP, and diverse other senior stakeholders.

It was wonderful to see our Hanns Seidel Foundation Chair Markus Ferber, MEP, engaging with Dr. Jakkie Cilliers, Chairperson of the Board of the Insitute for Security Studies Pretoria, a longstanding HSF Partner, and Head of the African Futures and Innovation Program there. Their conversation also focussed on what needs to be done to intensify AU-EU cooperation, and to protect EU and African interests.

During the productive visit in Brussels, a very engaging, informative panel discussion on related topics with Rita Laranjinha, Director for Africa at the European External Action Service, and Nina Wilén, Research Director Africa at the Egmont Institute, also attracted a lot of interest from numerous participants.

The engagements also offered opportunities to share key insights and policy recommendations from recent studies by the Institute for Security Studies and the Global Initiative against Transnational Organised Crime which had been published with HSF support.
