Sharing recent research results

HSF Regional Representative Hanns Bühler had provided opening remarks at the event before  Dr Jakkie Cilliers presented recent research from the African Futures Project he is heading at the ISS. He shared key insights and recommendations from two new publications, both of which used the International Futures Software to provide analysis for potential future developments in key areas of society in different African countries. One of the reports focussed on demographics, the other on the fourth industrial revolution (see links to the publications below).

How to unlock Africa's potential

Dr Ibrahim Mayaki, CEO of the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency, shared his insights as the respondent. Which structural changes are needed to unlock the continent’s potential and to move labour much more rapidly into more productive sectors, given its large and fast growing population? This was the main question discussed, and the audience participated actively in the Question and Answer session that followed the presentations.
