Klaus Steiner from the Christian Social Union (CSU), Kathi Petersen from the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) und Christine Kamm from the Alliance 90/The Greens (B90/ Die Grünen) were part of the official delegation visiting the Bavarian partner province Western Cape. The delegation was welcomed by our new Regional Director for Southern Africa Hanns Bühler and our Cape Town team.
During the meeting, Jakkie Cilliers, Chairperson of the Board of the Institute for Security Studies Pretoria, presented a new study on the Future of Aid in Africa. Gareth Newham, Head of the "Justice and Violence Prevention Programme" of the ISS, informed the delegation about the work in this field and new projects to be carried out with support from the State of Bavaria as part of the partnership with the Western Cape as well.
The new projects build on the experience of our partner institutions and will focus on improvements in local government, violence prevention and human safety. Activities will include public panel discussions, training and mentoring programmes, engagements with community organisations and with political decision makers as well as the support of experts active in practical pilot projects and research.
