Former senior public prosecutor Glynnis Breytenbach, a member of the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) Shadow Minister for Justice, discussed the recent controversial JSC hearings for the position of Chief Justice and other judgeships. She also shared her views on the capacity of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to prosecute systemic corrupt infiltration of the state by government officials (state capture), and commented on proposed amendments to the Elections Act to allow independent candidates to run for national and provincial parliaments.

The lively discussions allowed for exchange between representatives of civil society organizations and NPA and political officials in attendance. The input by the Director of Public Prosecutions in the Western Cape as well as her deputy contributed further to the diversity of relevant perspectives and provided valuable insights into practical workflows and challenges faced by the NPA.
