At the HSF office, he was briefed about recent research on economic growth, demographics and development cooperation with African countries. He emphasised that it is important to support the economic and societal development of South Africa. The success of diverse democratic institutions is crucial to facilitate good governance and social progress, and the German political foundations active in the country can contribute to efforts of their local partners towards these goals.
During a dinner meeting with Dr Mamphela Ramphele, Medical Doctor, Anti-Apartheid activist, Author, former Director at the World Bank and Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Town, with German Consul General Matthias Hansen and HSF Regional Director Hanns Buehler, Dr. Stefinger had the opportunity to find out more about the rich history and culture of South Africa. He showed a special interest in efforts to lessen poverty and inequality and to facilitate social cohesion. We look forward to continuing the engagements.
