HSF supports food initiative with the Nelson Mandela Foundation
Each One Feed One

In this grassroots project, our partner team members of the Nelson Mandela Foundation have been on the road for many weeks now - often together with Siya Kolisi, captain of the World Cup winning South African Springbok Rugby team, and his wife Rachel, as well as other partners.

As the Hanns Seidel Foundation in South Africa, we are currently privileged to support collaborative food relief initiatives which some of our long-term local partner organisations have started to help those most affected by the #Covid-19 crisis.

We are able to provide this assistance thanks to funding we receive from the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Bavarian State Chancellery.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation in collaboration with the Kolisi Foundation and Imbumba Foundation has established a food distribution programme under the banner of Each One Feed One in April.

It has received significant donations, enabling it to impact the lives of over 36 000 people in eight provinces of South Africa so far – they are receiving food hampers, masks and disinfectants, often with information brochures, and some boreholes and hippo rollers have been supplied as well.

#Each1Feed1 also supports those working in Early Childhood Development – a strategic focus area of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

Many informal childcare centres are now being registered through a cross sector collaboration and an intense campaign using media, social media and direct communication as well.

This will assist in providing much needed support and is important for a safe reopening of care centres as well.

This is also an opportunity to foster and institutionalise sustainable cross sector collaborations in South Africa. Together, we can make a difference.

With our support, the Nelson Mandela Foundation can do more.

The Hanns Seidel Foundation also invites members of the public in South Africa and abroad to join us in supporting this crucial campaign effort.

Many people are contributing to Each One Feed One, and companies are playing an important role - among them VW and Mercedes Benz South Africa.
