ISS experts share insights from their research and partner work

There is lots of work still to do, but research makes it clear that hotspots and procedural justice policing are crucial to reducing crime and violence where it is most harmful, and to building trust and legitimacy.

ISS experts have been collaborating intensely with academics and practitioners in recent years, and evidence-based policing work is growing in South Africa.

International collaborations aiming for progress in practice

It's great and important to build partnerships on human security with senior South African Police Service Officers, representatives of the Western Cape Government, and German and American researchers and officers - the conference was also productive in this regard. The partners are looking forward to next steps, aiming to grow the community, continue to generate evidence locally and to improve policing and safety.
