Life Orientation teacher training
Facilitating active citizenship

About 80 Life Orientation Lecturers from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges across South Africa gathered in Johannesburg for two days of training on teaching "Facilitating Active Citizenship" lessons. They will also use the Lecturer Guide developed with our Civics Academy as they teach their students.

The Life Orientation lecturers from TVET Colleges across South Africa came together at Ekurhuleni College in Johannesburg for the training hosted by the Department of Higher Education and Training jointly with our Civics Academy team.

Together, they also explored the lesson on "Why should you vote?" from the Lecturer Guide on Facilitating Active Citizenship. The guide is assisting with teaching Life Orientation lessons in innovative, creative ways, making them stimulating and enjoyable for the students.

The Lecturer Guides were drafted and published in a collaboration project of the Department of Higher Education and Training with teachers, other experts and our Civics Academy Team. They assist with making Civic Education lessons more relevant, interactive and effective, also using Civics Academy videos. The exercises relate to experience in South Africa and stimulate learning and independent thinking.

During the training in Johannesburg, facilitators also unpacked our Civics Academy projects for TVET students' performance assessments starting with the Elections Campaign Project.
