We were honoured to meet UNIDO Managing Director and Special Representative for Africa Fatou Haidara and her team in Vienna. ISS Chair Dr Jakkie Cilliers briefed UNIDO staff on the new African Futures platform and results of research on long-term scenarios to enhance Africa’s development prospects.

A hybrid workshop with UNIDO experts from different countries offered a great opportunity to introduce the new African Futures platform, a unique data and knowledge hub, and to discuss its use.

Industrial development, increased manufacturing capacity and the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) will be crucial for the continent’s trajectory.

We appreciated the warm welcome and the excellent exchange on Africa’s development potential and possible future synergies between our organisations.
