COVID-19
Letter from the HSF Director in Southern Africa

The evidence shows compellingly that the best way to protect people against the Covid-19 virus is to minimize travel and group interactions as far as possible. Prevention in the sense of social distancing is currently the only measure to contain the spread of the virus.

Dear Friends of the Hanns Seidel Foundation,

In accordance with President Cyril Ramaphosa's speech from Sunday, 15 March 2020, and in line with the health guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO), the Hanns Seidel Foundation has decided to suspend all travel of the Foundation’s staff and to postpone all public events. We encourage all our partners to do the same.

We apologize for any inconvenience this will cause.

The health and safety for our staff and the staff of our partner organizations, colleagues and their families are of utmost importance.

This does not mean we are stopping our work or our support to our partner organizations. On the contrary. Our interactions with different stakeholders and with our partners in South Africa continue. In those difficult and extraordinary times, we have to think about new ways to engage and to contribute to our mandate to promote peace, democracy, and development. This bears also an opportunity.

Stay healthy, act responsibly, and take care of yourself and more vulnerable groups.

With best wishes,

Hanns Bühler

Regional Representative
