Streetlaw founder and seasoned teacher Professor David McQuoid-Mason facilitated interactive engagements on participatory democracy, protecting human rights, active citizenship and voter education. The program allowed for in-depth conversations and facilitated tailor made adaptation of the material to make it relevant to the lives and work of the participants and their future group members.

Democracy for All program

The program for the workshops, Democracy for All, had recently been updated with the support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation. The Learners Manual and the Trainers Manual contain a wealth of practical examples, relevant for the South African context. They are used in interactive exercises which give participants the opportunity to explore, make their voices heard, practice and network as well.

Civics Academy videos as a resource

Participants had been sent by the Independent Electoral Commission and the Department of Education, and they all work actively in their communities. Two of the participants, representatives of the Dumiso Dabengwa Foundation, joint from Zimbabwe. Civics Academy videos were incorporated into the workshops as well. Participants found the interactive Train the Trainer Training using the "Democracy for All" and "Civics Academy" methodology and resources productive, enjoyable and useful for their future engagements.
