Important event in the Province
Opening of Western Cape Parliament

It's a great moment in any democracy: we witnessed the opening of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament by Speaker Daylin Mitchell and the delivery of the State of the Province Address 2025 by Premier Alan Winde.

The occasion was even more special this time as it took place in Beaufort West, Central Karoo, not in Cape Town where the Parliament is based.

It was fantastic to hear the Premier mention the Western Cape - Bavaria Partnership as making a real difference.

Premier Alan Winde also reflected on his recent engagements at the Munich Security Conference and underlined: how we position ourselves in the world is critical in these times of geopolitical shifts.

We were honoured to have been invited to the State of the Province Address and grateful to witness the speech and the proceedings and engagements of this special occasion in Beaufort West.

On the following day, the Debate on the Western Cape State of the Province Address took place here as well.

The Hanns Seidel Foundation has been implementing programs contributing to the Bavaria - Western Cape partnership for many years, in fields including human security, local government, and civic education. We are grateful for the support from the Bavarian State Chancellery and the Bavarian Parliament.
