The public event had been conceptualised by a group of students with a special interest in Macroeconomics; they were part of the organising team - and one of them, McKinnley Mitchell, was the MC for the evening.

Renowned panelists provided insightful contributions:

  • Ms. Shannon Bold – Senior Economist, Bureau for Economic Research
  • Prof. Philippe Burger – Dean, Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, University of the Free State
  • Ms. Mamokete Lijane – Strategist: Global Markets, Standard Bank
  • Mr. Nhlanhla Nene – Chairman, Thebe Investment Corporation & Former Minister of Finance
  • Dr. Daan Steenkamp – Economist and CEO, Codera Analytics

The engaging discussion, which included a Q&A session with the keen audience at Wits and online, was facilitated by Dr. Kenneth Creamer (SEF, Wits University).

Prof. Uma Kollamparambil, Head of the School of Economics and Finance, and Prof. Jason Cohen, Dean of the Commerce, Law and Management Faculty, provided thoughtful Opening and Closing Remarks.

Attended by a number of renowned experts, decision makers and students alike, the event also offered an opportunity for productive exchange between participants - and a series of similar seminars is being planned.
