How can South Africa achieve the inclusive growth the country needs, in an increasingly turbulent global environment? That's one of the key questions discussed at our event co-hosted with the School of Economics and Finance at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg last night.

In a frank, thoughtful debate, speakers discussed how to ensure spending is targeted strategically, pursuing a focused pro-growth agenda, and how to increase resilience against external shocks. South Africa can benefit from a reduced cost of capital, the removal from the FATF grey list, and other progress made recently.

We are very grateful to our panelists

* Ashor Sarupen, Deputy Finance Minister, South Africa

* Colin Coleman, Banker, Academic and Thought Leader

* Gilad Isaacs, Executive Director, Institute for Economic Justice

* Tidiane Kinda, IMF's Senior Resident Representative, South Africa

* Gina Schoeman, MD, CityBank

as well as Moderator Dr Kenneth Creamer, SEF, Dean Prof Jason Cohen and Head of School Prof Uma Kollamparambil, for sharing their expertise and thoughts.

Enrico Brandt, Deputy Ambassador of Germany in South Africa, emphasized the profound importance of the relationship and cooperation between our countries. About 600 German companies are active in South Africa, creating over 100 000 jobs.

We appreciate the cooperation with our partners and co-hosts for this event series, including the committed student team from the Wits Society for Macroeconomic Thought Leadership.
