Hotspot Policing Cooperation

Together with our partners from the Institute for Security Studies, we have been supporting a pilot project on a joint Hotspot Policing approach in Cape Town. Key insights and recommendations have now been shared with the Cape Town Mayor and the Western Cape Safety MEC.

The Pilot Project in Cape Town was seeking to develop and implement a joint Hotspot Policing approach of the South African Police Service, the City of Cape Town and Western Cape Government officials.

In a productive meeting with the Mayor of Cape Town Geordin Hill-Lewis, the MEC for Safety in the Western Cape Anroux Marais and their teams, key insights and recommendations could be shared and discussed.

Ian Cameron, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Police Work, had also joined the meeting with our ISS Partner Experts.

As part of a series of engagements and workshops on the pilot project and how to take its learnings forward, project participants also had important, practical and implementation-focused discussions with representatives of the Western Cape Government, the South African Police Service and the City of Cape Town Law Enforcement management teams.

Findings, impacts and recommendations for future Evidence Based Policing strategies were discussed with other relevant stakeholders and decision-makers as well.
