A new group of 70 TVET lecturers has just completed an interactive 2-day training on "Facilitating Active Citizenship" lessons.

This multi-year collaboration between the Hanns Seidel Foundation's Civics Academy and the Department of Higher Education and Training brings practical civic education into the classrooms of TVET colleges all across the country.

The training equips Life Skills & Computer Literacy lecturers to teach engaging lessons on active citizenship and democratic participation for their students.

To maximise impact, these lecturers will now also assist with training colleagues in their respective regions, further expanding the programme’s reach.

With the upcoming South African Local Government Elections, the civic lessons and assignments help students understand the voting process and why participation in democracy matters.

They will be the next generation of active, informed citizens!
